I know people think I am a little uptight and “square”. I’ve heard the scuttlebutt around the water cooler. It is true I am a stickler for standards and curriculum and proper drive route procedures.
However, that’s not all there is to me. Since the new year is approaching, I thought I would share a little bit of me “relaxing” and “cutting loose”. This is a hobby and pastime I have that is quite meaningful. I share this with students in class one when we are taking 5-7 minutes to connect and create personal connections to build trust. I say something like “I know you think we’re all square but I like to cut loose too”, and then I show them this clip.
This is me performing a Western Rope Dancing I call Big Night Blues. I do this at the local state fairgrounds with other western rope dancers. It can get quite heated at times, which is why, as some of you noted last spring, I had a welt under my eye. Deborah from Snohomish was whipping her rope at me during my performance and I said something to the effect you want to play like that? She said yes. A nemesis, you could say. She works as a T.A. in a local public school district and is always rubbing it in my face. Anyway, since it is a time of celebration and relaxation and good cheer, I thought I’d share a personal side of myself. What do you all like to do? Does anyone have goals they’d like to share for this year? My goal personally is to win western rope dancing this year and, as always, keep students accident free forever.
I am also spending the next few days learning the appropriate pie-making methods. My husband says I should just relax and drink a little bit. So I did just take a measured shot of whiskey.
Anyone remember the go-gos? cindy lauper?
